Obituary of Anthony "Gooch" Gorgo
Anthony "Gooch" Gorgo Jr. 77 died Friday February 15, 2008 in the Cooper University Medical Center in Camden. Born in Newfield to the late Tony and Theresa (Dauito) Gorgo where he remained a lifelong resident. Gooch loved hunting and was a lifetime member of the Newfield Ssportsman Club. His love of hunting was equally matched for his love of Baseball. Gooch was well known as a championship fast pitch softball pitcher in the 1950's and 1960's and was inducted into the South Jersey Fastpitch Hall of Fame in 1999. He retired from New Jersey Bell Telephone and became t;he founder of Gorgo Pallet Company. In his recent retirement years he pursued his long time dream of inventing the "Sports Backstop" Pitching Training device, and used his invention to coach many students in girls Fast Pitch Softball league in the South Jersey area. Gooch was a member of the landisville Social Club, and the Diamond Social Club. He enjoyed spending time with his family especially he grand and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Emma C. Grillo, Daughter Toni Van Camp and her husband Steven, son Frank and his wife Maria, son Anthony III and his wife Maria. Grandchildren Anthony, Maria, Benjamin and his wife Minerva, and Great Grandson Benjamin. Gooch is also survived by his brother Ralph (Sonny) Gorgo all of Newfield.
