Family of Bernice: Your mother was a member of the Cumberland County Human Services Advisory Council. She became a member after she had particpated in a major planning effort that resulted in a five year comprehensive human services plan for the county. Her tenure was marked by a deep concern, an engaged presence and thoughtful questions when they were needed. I personnally found her to be a strong yet pleasant personality who loved her family and loved life. I always enjoyed talking to her and regret that that is no longer possible. She had a manner I found very likeable and one I wish more people possessed. As an aside when she told me she was going to Japan I asked her if she could try to find me a CD recording of Japanese sacred bells. On her return she said she couldn't find such a CD, but she did bring me a string of 3 smaller bells...not the same but even more treasured because she presented them to me. They hang in the doorway of my county office and each time someone knocks into them on their way through my door and when I see them I think of her. I liked your mother and shall miss her; the other members who knew her and others not members have expressed the same to me. Please accept, for the HSAC and myself, our sincere sympathies. E. Aronoff

I was unable to attend your Mother`s service but I wanted you to know how special she was not only to me but to the thousands of students for whom her love and concern was always in the forefront of her every waking moment. She was a fascinating blend of strenth and compassion. I was always aware of both. She hired me to be the first school social worker on the first CST in this County. We were a great team. She knew more about special education than anyone I ever knew. I bet you heard that more than once over the years! But that aside She was a wonderful friend and boss all those years. I know she will be loved and rememberd by all who knew her and she will always hold a very special place in my heart. You were blessed to have had her as I was was to have known her!

My sincere condolences to the Seibert family. Mike hired me for my first teaching job in Cedarville in a summer program and Bernice hired me for my first full time teaching job in Vineland. Both Mike and Bernice made an impact on my life and I have had many opportunities due to their influence. I worked closely with Bernice on Special Olympics and other Vineland Special Ed projects and just wanted to take a moment to express my sympathies to her family. Richard used to spend some time in my office at VHS 11-12 and I know how very proud Bernice was of all 'her boys' (and of course the gals and grandkids). She really made a tremendous difference in offering programs to students with specialized needs - in encouraging staff to engage in programs - and in being a mentor and model for many of us. Again, my sincere sympathies - she will be missed by all. Thoughtfully, Joyce Powell (former dept chair VHS 11-12 Special Education Dept and current president - NJEA

I first met Bernice when my daughter was dx with autism. We had a love/hate relationship in the beginning but I grew to enjoy, respect and look forward to speaking with her while she was the director and long after she retired. She always struck me as being full of life and enjoying every minute of it. She frequently spoke of her grandchildren and their accomplishments. My prayers are with you and your family

Bernice was such an amazing person. She taught me the meaning of the word, 'advocate.' She was strong, vocal, hard-working, honest, and exhibited such strength and grace. I loved that at work, she only drank her tea from a china cup. I'll never forget all that she did for my son, and the sacrifices she made for the parents of special needs students. She was truly a very special person. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family. Sincerely, Elaine M. Greenberg

Dear Family of Bernice...your Mother, Grandmother, and loved one was a wonderful human being. She truly cared for the children entrusted to her and I can personally speak about my daughter who was under Bernice's wings. My daughter was enrolled in the deaf program that Bernice was overseeing and she did extremely well. Bernice believed in not holding any child back and always challenging them. My daughter graduated last year in the top 5% of her class at VHS and is currently a freshman in college doing excellent. This is what Bernice did for the children under her wings. We are so happy she was able to enjoy her retirment, though short lived, she made the very most of it. I enjoyed her stories of travel and how she enjoyed her grandchildren. I was happy to see her having breakfast not long ago, she looked fantastic ! Take care and know that Bernice was a wonderful woman and did wonderful things for all children. Sorry I cannot be at her services, however, Bernice would not want a student to be uncovered while an employee was attending her services, that was Bernice. Her spirit lives on !!! God Bless you all.

Dear Seibert Family, It was with deep regret that I learned of your mother's passing. I ran into her a few weeks after accepting the position of Supervisor of Special Education for Vineland and asked her if she would share any advice. She replied and I quote "Always base any decision you make on behalf of all children and you can never go wrong." I aspire everyday to live up to those words.

I was so saddened by Bernice's passing. She was a very special person in our dental practice - a favorite patient who always kept us entertained with travel stories and great conversation. She had a lovely personality. My employees were also very saddened- they were extremely fond of her. Besides knowing Bernice as a patient, I also knew her from 20 years ago through my friendship with Mary Ella and have many pleasant memories. I need to apologize for being unable to attend the funeral - I would love to pay my respects in person, but my family and I are going to W. Palm Beach, Fl. to see my folks on Thursday afternoon. I pray for everyones strength and comfort during such a sad time. Sincerely, Brian M. Kutner

Dear Seibert family, Your dear mom was my boss for almost thirty years and a dear friend from the first day that I met her in 1975. Bernice was THE pioneer of Special Education in Vineland, the number 1 voice for special kids and no one could have asked for a better boss who stood by her staff to the nth degree. (Of course, she would be sure to tell you face to face if you were wrong). I loved her down-to-earth approach, her love of life and all that it offers, her wonderful sense of humor and her hearty laugh. She loved her family and spoke of you all with pride always. God bless you and know that Bernice touched many lives in a positive way. I will miss her dearly. John Fagotti

There is no better advocate and love for students than Bernice. Her special knowledge and love for each child, their strengths and weaknesses, and the pairing of appropriate personnel has no equal. I am so grateful for her love of deaf children and her guidance throughout the years she was the director of Special Education. She was also a wonderful friend. God bless everyone in her family and I pray for strength at this time. We will all miss her dearly. God Bless!
