Obituary of Lola Schweidt

LOLA SCHWEIDT - Holocaust Survivor Lola Schweidt of Vineland, New Jersey passed away peacefully January 6, 2009 at home after an extended illness. Born in Cracow, Poland in 1915, she lost her husband and young child along with most of her family during the Holocaust. During the war, she was in various concentration camps including Plaszow. After the war, she married Abraham Ackerman and with their son, Michael, emigrated to the United States in 1950. After living in New York City for a brief period, she settled in Vineland in 1951. They operated a poultry farm together and participated in events with the Jewish Poultrymen's Association until Abraham passed away in 1961. Determined to overcome personal adversity, she established herself as a caterer in the Vineland area. She remarried twice again, first in 1963 to Joseph Schweidt and after his death, then to David Morgan in 1976. She continued as a homemaker and as a business woman involved in managing apartment units. She was active in the Jewish community including Hadassah and Hebrew Women's Benevolent Association. However, the greatest love of her life was spending time with her family and grandchildren as well as in social activities with her many friends. She will be remembered for her engaging smile, her joie de vivre, her ability to find the good in any situation and her overall strength and willingness to handle any hardship in her life. She remained a woman of strong character and a role model for her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter, Vicky Furman and son-in-law Harry of Vineland, son Michael Ackerman and daughter-in-law Annette of Frankfurt, Germany, a stepson, Joseph Morgan and wife, Joyce, a sister Rena Weinberg of Israel, and grandchildren, Michael Furman and wife Sara, Jessica Furman, Alison Furman, Abraham Ackerman and wife Mirit, Solomon Ackerman, Rebecca Ackerman, David Morgan, Adina Morgan, and Betsy Morgan and great grand-children Mia Ackerman and Benjamin Ackerman. Friends will be received at 1:30pm followed by religious services at 2 p.m. at Beth Israel Synagogue. Park Ave in Vineland. Burial will be in Alliance Cemetery, Gershal Avenue, Norma. Arrangements are under the direction of Rone Funeral Services, 1110 Chestnut Avenue, Vineland.
