Obituary of Louise Karwowski
On Saturday, March 4, 2023, surrounded by the love of her partner and family, Louise Karwowski, seventy-one years old, passed on to heaven after a courageous fight against cancer.
The daughter of Frank and Josephine (Pogorzelski) Karwowski, Louise was born on August 10, 1951 in Plainfield, New Jersey. As a young child, she moved to Vineland and has ever since been a mainstay in the community, most notably championing the education of all.
Louise graduated from Vineland High School in 1969 and went on to obtain degrees from Glassboro State College (Rowan University), William Patterson University and ultimately her PhD from Penn State University. During those years, she established life long friends and colleagues, to whom she remained devoted.
Her professional career in education began as a teacher in Max Leuchter School and Landis Middle School. She went forward to instruct at Penn State University, later becoming an educational specialist for The State of NJ, Cape May County. She expanded her involvement as a director at the Cape May County Technical Institute.
In 1994, she began her principalship at William Johnstone School in Vineland, where she became known as the beloved "Dr K". During those years she untiringly advocated for all children and families. She also instructed at Rowan University. After her retirement in 2015, she continued to serve the community, substituting wherever she was needed.
She was the recipient of many awards and accommodations, but it was the relationships with families, children and colleagues that she cherished the most.
Louise loved to acquire new knowledge, thrift shop, spend time at the shore and most of all, take care of others. She realized her life long dream having her home in Sea Isle City, where she welcomed family and friends with open arms. Born with boundless energy and an adventurous spirit, she loved her travels with John and family members, across the USA, Hawaii and Europe.
She will be dearly missed by her long time partner, John Barnabei; siblings, Barbara, Frank (Linda), Albert Karwowski (Dorota) and Roberta Porcelli (Michele). Additionally she will be missed by her godson/nephew, Stephen Karwowski and her nieces & nephews, Cynthia Dempsey-Clements, Anne Porcelli, Allen Welden, Mary Porcelli-Mangum, AJ Karwowski and Katherine Karwowski. She also leaves ten grand nieces and nephews, whom she called "My Little Angels", as well as her dear cousins. Louise was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Josephine, and siblings, John Dempsey, Michael Karwowski and Valerie Karwowski.
Ever faithful, she was a parishioner of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church and later, Divine Mercy Parish. While in Sea Isle she attended St Joseph's Catholic Church.
Louise was a fiercely loyal partner, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. She gave generously of her time, love, caring and worldly goods. She will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched.
Funeral home visitations will be held on Friday evening, March 10th from 6pm to 8pm and again on Saturday morning, March 11th from 9am to 10am at Rone Funeral Service, 1110 East Chestnut Avenue, Vineland, NJ. A funeral mass will be held Saturday at 10:30am from Divine Mercy Parish, 23 West Chestnut Avenue, Vineland. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Vineland.
