Obituary of Sheldon E. Goldberg
Shep Goldberg, 77, of Philadelphia, PA and Sarasota, FL passed away Sunday night after a determined fight against pancreatic cancer surrounded by his beloved family.
Raised in Vineland, NJ, Shep was formerly vice president of Bache & Co., a founding partner of Cumberland Advisors PTY and founder of Cumberland Brokerage Corp. of Vineland. He served in the US Army in Japan during the Korean War. He served on the boards of the Vineland Board of Education, Beth Israel Congregation and Religious School, Jewish Federation of Cumberland County, Germantown Cricket Club, Elwyn NJ, First Republic Bank, Philadelphia Theatre Company and the Academy Chamber Players. Until April of this year, Shep was an avid tennis player at the Germantown Cricket Club in Philadelphia and The Colony in Sarasota. He was a proud liberal.
Shep was a central part of countless people's worlds because his generosity of spirit knew no bounds, the depth of his integrity was unending and his love was the role model for many loves. He was the light of our lives.
Shep is survived by his wife and soul mate of 25 years, Toni Alperin Goldberg of Philadelphia, his brother Dr. Albert (Linda) Goldberg of Larkspur, CA, seven children: Dr. Craig Goldberg, Putney, VT; Ellyn Bruce, Tucson, AZ; Leslie (Steve) Saunders, Middletown, RI; Linda Landers, Peterborough, NH; Liz Alperin Solms (Bob), Elkins Park, PA; David Alperin, Philadelphia, PA and Leah Alperin, Newport Coast, CA. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren: Micah Chambers-Goldberg (Tiffany), CJ Bruce, Rebecca Saunders, Anna Chambers-Goldberg, Eric Saunders, Tommy Bruce, Andrew Bruce, Nina Ross Goldberg, Joshua Saunders, Jacob Solms, Gabriel Solms, and Rhett Landers, as well as Minh Rodescu and Gabrielle Haynes who are grandchildren of the heart. He is pre-deceased by his loving parents, Louis and Alice Goldberg, and sisters Ruth Prizant and Sylvia Ronis. Shep is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews, cherished members of the Myer and Irwin Alperin families and countless friends who he honored as Shep's Warriors.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 23rd at 2:00 pm at the Beth Israel Synagogue, 1015 Park Ave., Vineland, NJ (856-691-0852). Burial will follow in Alliance Cemetery, Norma, NJ. Arrangements are under the supervision of Rone Funeral Services. Shiva will be observed at the family's residence in Philadelphia.

Germantown Settlement is a community development organization in Germantown, PA, a neighborhood that Shep cared for deeply and worked on behalf of when he was president of Germantown Cricket Club.
