SYLVIA FURMAN -83- Holocaust Survivor Sylvia Furman of Vineland, New Jersey passed away July 17, 2008 after a brief illness at the South Jersey Regional Medical Center. Born in Sosnowiec, Poland i 1925, she was taken by the Nazis as a young teenager and sent to a labor camp in Czechoslovakia where she spent the rest of the War. All of her family perished in the Holocaust except for her sister, Rose, and an uncle Gutman. While living in a displaced persons camp in Germany, she met the love of her life and future husband, Morris. They came to the United States and settled in Vineland in 1949. They operated a poultry farm together until Morris passed away i 1977. She worked briefly for the Vineland Public Schools as a cafeteria employee, but largely spent her time with her family and grandchildren, listening to curent events on talk radio and maintaining an active interest in her synagogue, Hadassah and other Jewish organizations. She will be remembered and missed as a kind and decent woman who always found little ways to express how much she loved her family.
