Obituary of Bernice Apprendi

Bernice Scrivani Apprendi, 85, of Vineland, passed away peacefully Monday, January 30th, surrounded by her family at home after a brief illness. Born in Vineland, she was the daughter of the late Lena (Bergamo) and Alexander Scrivani. Bernice graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1943, received her Bachelor's Degree from Montclair State College and Master's Degree from Farleigh Dickenson University. Bernice retired as a teacher after 39 years working in the Vineland Public School System. During her tenure she served as the first Department Head of the Business Department at Vineland High School-North from 1976 - 1991. Bernice's passion for education was reflected throughout her career. Her colleagues are quoted stating, "She was an educator of sterling character who was enthusiastic, diligent and conscientious …creative professional creating innovative programs at the high school." "Her leadership ability enabled the business department to be one of the best." Her students continue to remember her professionalism and dedication. She was an active member of Saint Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, the Sacred Heart Parent's Guild, and Vineland Jaycee-ettes. Bernice lived life to its fullest, cherishing her time spent with family and friends. Her interests included decorating, gardening, crafting, cooking and doing a variety of handwork. Bernice also loved spending endless days at the shore, shopping and collecting. Bernice is survived by her beloved husband of 62 years, Charles Apprendi Sr.; children, Valerie McDonough, Charles Apprendi Jr., Lynn and husband, Anthony Monteleone; granddaughter Alexis (Donoflio) and husband Douglas Pyszka.; and great granddaughter Lucille Lynn Pyszka. A church visitation will be held from 9:15 to 10:45 a.m. on ….followed by a funeral liturgy at 11:00 a.m. at Padre Pio Parish -Our Lady of Pompeii Church , Dante Avenue, Vineland. Interment will follow at Saint Mary's Cemetery, Vineland.
