I have a a neat little round wooden box on my night stand that makes me think of Uncle Sam daily. I often think of him and my grandfather working together in the wood shop. As I child, I found him to be a bit intimidating, may be because he was so tall, but as I matured and got to know him better, I found him to be a warm and gentle soul, full of good stories and wisdom. One of my last memories of Uncle Sam was when he came to visit my mom who was very ill. He was frail and not well but he was determined to visit her in her last days.

Sam Crystal, the brother of my Uncle Abe Crystal, both with deep, vibrant voices that enhanced their great story telling skills - they left a lasting impression on me. I last saw Sam and Inge over a year ago at my sister Blossom's house. Sam had just completed a beautifully hand crafted table. We lost yet another fine person with quiet and consistent leadership skills at a time when people have lost the meaning of honesty and sincerity. Rest in Peace! David & Sheila Kornbluh and family

As a boy I often "helped" my Grandpa Abe with his woodworking projects. Invariably the time would come when Grandpa said "Let's go over to Sam's house." This was because Grandpa's brother Sam had the greatest collection of woodworking tools I had ever seen and would make short work of the the next step in the project. I especially remember the lathe which was mesmerizing to watch as as it shaved away slivers of wood. Like probably hundreds of other lucky souls who knew my Uncle Sam, I have one of his famous carved wooden bowls prominently displayed on my bedroom bureau so I have a constant reminder of him. May he rest in peace.
