Obituary of Olga Medio
Olga DiBrigida Medio was born on July 31, 1926 at 157 Verona Avenue, Newark, NJ and died peacefully in her sleep at home on November 9, 2018. She moved with her parents to Vineland in April of 1927 when her parents began DiBrigida Farms on West Garden Road. She proudly attended Kingman School for kindergarten through sixth grade, then junior high school for seventh and eighth grade at H.L. Reber school, and graduated from Vineland High School with honors in 1944. While in school she worked on her parents farm, at J.C. Penny clothing store on Landis Avenue and Hartley Goves Glass Factory on State Street. After graduation, she was a bookkeeper at Schiapelli Iron Works and Marrene's Women's Wear on weekends. Shortly thereafter, she took a full time job sewing jackets at Newell's Clothing Factory on Seventh and Quince. She met her future husband in August of 1945 when he was home after serving a full tour with the Third Battalion in Europe. They were married on November 13, 1948 at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Vineland.
In 1951, she gave birth to her first son and the couple built their house on Garden Road. She was a housewife who worked on the family farm and raised her three children. While on the farm she often could be found driving box trucks to the Vineland Produce Auction or the Philadelphia Market on Dock Street. In 1958, she was part of the founders group who planned, raised money for, and built Northwest Swim Club, which opened in May of 1959. She was a lifetime member and honorary Trustee. She was a founding member of St. Francis Parrish on West Chestnut Avenue, which is now known as Divine Mercy where she was a parishioner since opening the church. At the church, she was the President of the PTA, President of the Ladies of St. Francis Society, and a member of the St. Francis Grandparents Society.
Olga was a strong matriarch who loved hosting and cooking for her family and friends. She was an expert at knitting, making hats, sweaters, blankets, and anything she wanted over the years. She also enjoyed spending her summers at Northwest Swim Club with family and friends. She will be sadly missed.
She was predeceased by: her husband of 53 years, Frank Medio, Jr.; her daughter Anita Louise Medio; her father Eugenio DiBrigida; her mother Jenoeffa Caprio DiBrigida; her sister Jennie Margaret (DiBrigida) Bisconte; brother in law Angelo Bisconte; and brother Nicola DiBrigida.
She is survived by: her three sons Eugene (Susan); Franklin (Anne); Michael; two nephews: Peter (Christine) Bisconte; Eugene Bisconte; five grandchildren John (Ashley); Cynthia; Jeffrey (Brittany); Anthony (Kelly); and Steven (Lacey); a great niece Daniele Bisconte; a great nephew Nicholas Bisconte; and seven great-grandchildren Angelina; Alex; Claire; Ryan; Elena; Emilia; and Thomas whom she made sure to meet before she left. She is also survived by many family members and close friends, including her good friend Gloria DiBruno with whom she was friends since childhood.
