Susan; this is Reuben Presas - San Antonio Tx. I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I just found Deans obituary because I came across the drumsticks that I used when I took lessons at your home in San Antonio. They were designed by Dean. I so enjoyed lessons with Dean. I started late in my life but Dean treated me with great respect. On Dean’s advise I studied at U of H and then UTSA. I earned a BME from UTSA and a Master of music tech.
I taught middle school for 18 yrs and elementary for 6 more yrs. All while playing in bands to pay for college and perform all over the state and country. I worked in marketing for Remo in LA for 5 yrs. I know how this sounds, but I owe all of my music career to the knowledge and professionalism that I learned from Dean. He really was the best and my favorite music instructor. If it had not been for him I would never have had the wonderful musical life that I still enjoy. I am retired from teaching but I’m still a drummer. I can’t say enough good about Dean.
San Antonio and I are so much richer for having known Dean and his amazing talent. I will continue to remember.
God bless you and all of your family. The musical world has lost a great talent.
Shalom

Dear family and friends of Dean,
I just learned of Dean's passing. I was Sinatra's drummer when Dean was playing percussion with us.
He was a fantastic musician but more importantly a great guy who we all felt better when ever he was around.
I'm very grateful that in my lifetime Dean passed through and I know you understand that better than me...
Love and will miss you Dean...
Gregg

I am very sorry to learn of Dean's death. Dean and I played together in the Queens Symphony Orchestra for several years. In addition to playing well, he was a pleasure to work with. I will miss him. May his memory be for a blessing.

Sue & Family
Our prayers are with each of you. When I went into my digital Daily Journal this morning & saw Dean has passed away my heart filled with tears. We pray in the days ahead you will find the guidance you need & the comfort from your god in everyway. We miss you as neighbors since our retiring & moving to Florida but not a day goes by that I especially don't think of those neighbors that were always special to me after my loss of my first husband & how kind they were to my boys. I continue to pray for you & think of you as well. God Bless

I have known and worked with Dean since he arrived at Rowan! I will miss his smile, his integrity, his love for music and his remarkable dedication to his students. My sympathy and love go out to his entire family, but especially his lovely wife Susan, and Matt and Allison. Even though music and teaching was our professional connection, I will always treasure the memory of my 18-mile run with Dean when he was training to run a marathon! Dean did not retreat from any challenge!

I always thought of this passage of holy scripture when I came to know Dean Witten and his convictions:
PS. 26: Judge me, O Lord, for I have walked in mine integrity. I have trusted also in the Lord, therefor I shall not slide. Examine me O Lord and prove me; try my heart and my mind.

I had the absolute privilege of having a lesson with him once in preparation for my Senior Reictal at Rowan... I truly will never forget how kind and passionate he was. I left his presence that day forever changed as a musician and a human being. Very sad to hear that the world lost this man.

Dear Susan, Matthew, and Allison,
I am sending my deepest heartfelt sympathy and love to you, for your loss.
As many others, I was so shocked by the passing of your amazing, loving, brilliant, honest husband and father.
I did not know Dean was sick, and feel terribly guilty for not knowing.
Everything that has been said about him is absolutely true, and demonstrates quite an example of the kind of person we should all be.
Yes, he was the definition of integrity, and his goodness will live on in all of you, I am sure.
Please know that I will be thinking of you and sending hugs and prayers.

So very sorry to hear about the passing on Dean. I took my very first drum lesson with him in 1973 while he was a student at Eastman.
He was a very generous teacher giving extra time to a kid who didn't practice nearly as often as asked. The knowledge he gave me helped a great deal with my future studies and I never forgot many of the words he spoke at my lessons some 44 years ago. I've thought of him often over those years.
Thanks for everything Dean!
Condolences to Sue and family.
