Obituary of George Steffens

George W. Steffens, 89, of Vineland passed away peacefully on February 25, 2017 at Inspira Medical Center. He was born in Vineland on February 21, 1928 to the late George L. and Gladys (Hegeman) Steffens and graduated from Vineland High School in 1946. George served in the US Army from 1951-1953 as a Personal Records Specialist He graduated from US Army Corp Engineers-Petroleum Storage School and served under Staff Engineers of EVCOM in France. George worked for Dom Michaels Clothing Store and DeBruno Family. He spent 25 years working in the corrugated box industry his last job with Anchor Container Co. in Philadelphia before retiring in 1992. He completed courses at Cumberland County College in Real Estate and held a NJ Real Estate License with Pierce-Jannarone. George was active locally and state wide as Vineland Jaycee Vice-President, a member of the Board of Directors of NJ State Directors. In 1964, he was awarded Vineland Jaycee of the Year and "Project of the Year" for the Cadillac Dinner. He was a former member of the Lion's Club, American Legion, Diamond Social Club, Eagles and a Charter member of Buena Vista Country Club. George was also a member of Sacred Heart Church. He enjoyed when the family would get together in Sea Isle City. He also enjoyed rooting for the Broncos & the Saints football teams, Red Sox baseball and Celtic basketball. George was always watching Fox News. He is survived by wife of 63 years, Patricia (Mulligan) Steffens; daughter & son-in-law, Sara Tracy & Pierre Letellier of Colorado; son & daughter-in-law, Peter Michael & Lori (Raspino) Steffens of Louisiana; grandchildren, Kristin, Jennifer & Zoe Letellier., Renee & Zach Cohen; Heather Pritchard (Matt), Aidan Steffens and Nicholas Raspino; four great-grandchildren; godson Michael Cavagnaro (Diane); three nephews and three nieces; brother-in-law, Jack Mulligan and his sister-in-law Mary Jane Cramer. George was predeceased by his stepmother Gladys (Brooks) Steffens; sister and brother-in- law, Dorothy & James Cavagnaro; his in-laws, William and Rebecca Mulligan; sister-in-law, Josephine Merighi Mulligan; brother-in-law, Bill Cramer and nephew Paul Cavagnaro. At George's request services will be private at the convenience of his family.
