Dearest Ginger, Odie&Amanda, Jonathan&Melanie, Betsy&Martin and the 'Special, Spectacular, Super Star Six' ~~ Sean, Jessica and Brady Chase, Tanner and Alec Bell, and Addy Chase~~~the LOVE of OD and Ginger's LIFE. OD and Ginger were/are wonderful parents and 'Over the Top' Grandparents. He was so very very PROUD of his children and their successes in life -- especially their successful marriages and family. He loved them all so very much (now Odie and Jonathan please close your eyes and DO NOT READ THE FOLLOWING -- Yes he loved his sons so much but you know what they say about Dad's and their Daughters and after all that blue and trucks and dirt, he was OVER THE MOON when Elizaberh Chase made her grand arrival. There couldn't be enough pink, princess items and dolls for 'his little Betsy'. He was convinced that she hung not only the Stars but the Sun and the Moon too and when she became the Princess in her ballet costumes and dances, I think his HEART grew so big that we could all hear it beating when she was around. He simply adored her -- and the only other person he loved a tiny bit more (no--really, a whole bunch more-- was his beloved wife, Ginger, If Betsy hung the stars, Ginger walked on water and was with and for him for 50+years -- he was lost whenever she wasn't within shouting distance or didn't answer his phone calls on the 1st ring!!
Their children and grandchildren will miss their Dad and 'Grandy' and his fun jokes and great times. OD was the Grandfather who would give them everything and anything (well, he once told Brady that $100/hr. was a bit much to pay a six year old for his 'landlord' duties at the Ocean City House) -- but that's about the only time I heard him say NO.
I personally will miss our LATE NIGHT MOVIE SHOWS whenever I was visiting. OD and I watched movies till 3 or 4 in the morning -- sometimes we almost got caught staying up that late because OMG!! Ginger got up for the day BEFORE DAWN!! We had a hard time finding movies that neither of us had seen before .....but it really didn't matter because OD would be falling asleep in his 'CHAIR' and I was falling asleep on the sofa bed ..... and of course we could always start the one upsmanship of which one of us had the worst back pain -- so we agreed to take turns being the one to pity. And of course we would get off talking about anything and everything and he was so interested in so many things, esp. History (which was my least favorite subject except when OD told me the stories, they actually made me want to learn more about ... HISTORY -- who would have ever thought someone could change something in me?? But OD was like that. He was only my cousin by marriage but since Ginger and I were the closest in age girl grandchildren and almost raised together, OD was more like a brother or best friend. Ginger even got to come to my house and my Mother took care of Ginger, my sister Kathi and me and nursed us thru the dreaded MEASELS! Back then, the doctors said we could go blind if we had any light so we spent weeks in the DARK but my Mom actually made it fun -- if you can agree that being sick at 10, 8 and 3 could actually be fun!
Well, EVERYONE in our family knows how much I talk so after taking up the space of 10 notes, I will finally close by sending all my love, thoughts and prayers NorthEast to Vineland and to Ginger and her wonderful family. My heart is with all of yours as we say Good Bye to OD who we all loved and will miss dreadfully. Please Rest in Peace OD and I for one am so happy that you are finally free from THAT DREADED BACK PAIN ~~ except who will I whine to now? My love, patti
