Obituary of Albert Sciarretta

Albert Sciarretta, 92, of Landisville, NJ, passed away on November 27, 2014 in the New Jersey Veterans Memorial Home in Vineland. One of nine children, Albert Sciarretta was born in Landisville to Corrado and Anna Marie Sciarretta on February 4, 1922. His plans to grow his father's thriving pasta business were cut short by the onset of World War II, when he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in April 1942 and spent most of his four years of service in the South Pacific. After leaving the Navy, he returned home and soon married the girl next door, Jennie DiDomenico. When he wasn't working as a sewing machine mechanic, he enjoyed growing vegetables, raising chickens, making wine, fishing, crabbing, and having family barbeques. He was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 158, in Landisville, and the American Legion, Post 270, in Minotola, NJ. He also volunteered in helping with events sponsored by Our Lady of Victories Church and other community organizations. Albert Sciarretta is survived by his three children, Diane of Vineland, NJ, William of Buena Borough, NJ, and Albert (and wife Susan) of Springfield, VA; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; his sister Grace Petrillo; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Jennie. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the medical, nursing, and administrative staff of the NJ Veterans Memorial Home in Vineland for the outstanding care and loving support they provided to their father for the past two years. A Church Visitation will be on Tuesday, December 2, 2014 from 11:15am to 1:15pm followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:30 pm at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament - Church of our Lady of Victories, 202 Northwest Boulevard, Landisville, NJ. Burial will be in Our Lady of Victories Cemetery, Landisville, NJ.
