Obituary of Irene A. Bullock

Irene Anna (Kish) Bullock of Milmay passes away on August 31, 2014 in Bethesda, Md. She was born in 1916 in Jersey City, NJ to Frank and Anna Kish. She graduated from high school at age 16 and attended Jersey City Normal School, obtaining a teaching certificate at age 18 and later completing her degree at Glassboro State College (now Rowan University). Her parents and younger brother moved to a poultry farm in Dorothy, NJ in 1932, and she joined them in 1934, taking a teaching position in the Weymouth Township school system. During the summers she worked for the Atlantic County Library system, operating the Bookmobile throughout the county. She served as the organist at St. Bernard's Church. During World War II she was a volunteer in the Civilian Air Patrol. She married Henry "Harry" T. Bullock in 1945 and moved to Milmay, NJ. After raising three children she returned to teaching, serving in Estell Manor, Weymouth Township and Buena Vista Township prior to her retirement in 1986. She loved to teach younger children, with an emphasis on reading skills. In her later years she took satisfaction from completing the New York Times Sunday crossword puzzle, knitting, playing computer word games and visiting with friends and family She was preceded in death by her husband Harry and her brother Aladar Kish. She is survived by children Thomas (Karen Fahrner), Henry L. (Cecily Gray) and Kathryn ( Jeffrey Bahls), four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. She also is survived by a large number of students who learned to read under her tutelage.
