William Stafford, Senior U. S. District Judge posted a condolence
Tuesday, March 4, 2014
To the family, friends and colleagues of Judge Stanley Brotman
We have all lost a beloved man, whose dedication, compassion and patriotism
reflect a lifetime of unselfish service to his God, his country and his
profession. Stanley and I were active in the Federal Judges Association
together, and I was honored to serve with him for six of his seven years on
the FISA Court. His opinion was sought and always well-received in the
highest councils of government.
While his devotion to duty is well documented, his companionship was also
sought. He was just a joy to be around, and we valued his friendship.
Good men like Stanley Brotman do not cross your path often, and he will be
missed. SHALOM.
With respects and in sadness,
Bill Stafford

Dear Suzanne and the Brotman family, Stanley was the finest of the fine. He was the shining star of Vineland and all who knew him. I deep0ly regret that I was unable to attend his services due to the fact that I was undergoing knee surgery at the time. Stanley was not only brilliant, but he had a great sense o humor. Years ago, I had the privilege of sitting next to Stanley on a trip to Washington, DC for some occasion. He was wonderful company, as usual. I will miss him very much. After all of his tireless years of excellent work, may he rest in Peace.
Sincerely, Dr. John Reinard (former Cumberland Freeholder)

Suzanne:
What a shock this was. I do know of your wonderful relationship with Stan and how difficult this must be for you. Just know that I'm feeling for you.
Stan was a delightful man who understood his being a person before being a judge, not always a characteristic of our circle.
My sincerest condolences to you and your family.

To Mrs. Brotman and the Brotman family,
I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of your husband and dad. I have only had several occasions since meeting Rich and Alison back in 1976 to personally spend time with your whole family, and only once when the Judge was in town briefly on business. On all the occasions, but especially the time I spent with him one on one, he impressed me as a pillar of care, thoughtfulness, justice, and humanity. I was reminded then, and now, how fortunate that we had someone like him in our justice system and also as a friend.
He was a rare one and we will all miss him dearly.

To Mrs. Brotman and the Brotman fsmily,
In 1974 I was a very young, newly admitted lawyer serving as law clerk to the Honorable Mitchell H. Cohen. I had a great deal of contact with the federal system and appeasred before Judge Brotman on many occasions. He was always kind to me, took the time to instruct me and clearly took pleasure in the role of mentor. He was a wonderful man, an accomplished lawyer and a great jurist. We all share your loss. God bless you, him and the family. Ron graziano

We were so very sorry to hear of Stan's passing. Even though it has been years since we were together at American Bar meetings and seeing him and Suzanne here in Philadelphia we have remembered what enjoyable company they were. Stan stood for everything that is admirable in the legal profession and we are poorer for his having left us. we extend our condolences to the entire family.

Dearest Suzanne and family,
We are so very sorry to hear of our beloved Stanley's passing. He was our Rock and our Inspiration.
His dedication, sense of fairness, clear- thinking, and plain hard work-- everyday!--resulted in his having a major role in shaping the District Court of the Virgin Islamds. And just as he made clear his deep love of the people of the Court family, so we loved and cherished him.
We always felt so fortunate to count him as a dear friend. We will miss him. Our hearts are with you Suzanne, Alison and Richard. With love, Ann and Geoff Barnard

Judge Brotman was a friend extraordinaire of the Virgin Islands, acting as our presiding Chief Judge after the devastation of Hurricane Hugo in 1989 and then continuing his contributions for decades afterwards. His sense of fairness and his ability to get things done touched all Virgin Islanders. His efforts were one of the main reasons why St. Croix was able to build a new federal courthouse. He never tired of public service, patiently listening and cajoling the lawyers who appeared before him "to get the job done" but never being afraid to rule when his advice was not heeded. His wife, Suzanne, is also owed a very large debt of gratitude for letting us share her husband's time, as she was and is part of the Virgin islands as well. He will be missed by all.

My wife, Jeni, and I are saddened to learn of the passing of a great lawyer and jurist, Stanley S. Brotman. We first came to know Judge Brotman, not through the courts or the practice of law, but through our joint affiliation with the American Bar Association (ABA).
In 1989, the U.S. Virgin Islands was first admitted to the American Bar Association House of Delegates. I served as the first Delegate from the Territory. Judge Brotman served as a Delegate from New Jersey while also serving as Chief Judge of our federal District Court. He took me "under his wing" pronouncing me a member of the New Jersey delegation and assisted me greatly in representing the Territory.
We hope that his wife and family will find comfort in their many wonderful memories, as well as the love and kindness of his friends and associates. Our thoughts and prayers are with them. Judge Brotman will continue to serve as example for all attorneys to follow. He will be missed, but most assuredly not forgotten

I am saddened to learn about the passing of Judge Brotman. He worked hard as a jurist here in the Virgin Islands for many years. He never passed me without stopping to say hello, because I knew him for many years before I began working as an Assistant Attorney General for the Virgin Islands Department of Justice. My condolences to his family.

To Suzanne and the family of Judge Brotman
Please accept my deepest sympathy on the passing of Judge Stanley Brotman. He was truly a great jurist and I always enjoyed appearing before him. Judge Brotman was especially helpful to me when we became personal friends while I was the President of the Virgin Islands Bar in 1990 and the islands were continuing to recover from Hurricane Hugo. His ideas helped strengthen our local bar, helped bridge the gap between our federal and local judiciaries and helped put our legal community on the road towards positive growth. He was very much a part of the Virgin Islands community and we shall miss him.
Sincerely yours, Andrew L. Capdeville, Esq.
