Obituary of Pio Dalponte

Pio T. Dalponte passed away on Saturday June 8, 2013 at the age of 86 at home with his loving family by his side. Pio was born in Richland, November 26, 1926 to the late Ameilia (Grossi) and Peter Dalponte. In his early years he worked at Dalponte Poultry Farm, attended Philadelphia technical school, owned and operated a refrigeration business, and then was employed by Dougherty Brothers in Buena for twenty-nine years as a machinist mechanic. His company sent him to hydraulics school in Chicago and his job entailed the setup of new factories in Indiana and then in Florida upon retirement. Pio enjoyed music, singing in the church; at weddings and in a vocal trio in his youth. He was a talented musician who played piano and guitar. He was also the catcher on the local Richland baseball team as a young man. Pio served in the United States Army in Berlin, Germany during the Korean War. After retirement Pio spent winters in Florida with his wife Gloria of 60 years. Most of all he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. In addition to his loving wife Gloria, he is survived by his son Glenn Dalponte, daughters Brenda Dalponte, Doreen Giannone and her husband Thomas, grandchildren Kimberly Linn, Tabatha Dalponte, Richard Serlick, Nicole Serlick, Mario Giannone, Gina Giannone and great-grandson Aiden Bizzell. He is also survived by his brother Louis Dalponte, sisters Pearl Bylone, Stella Sterchele, and many nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his sisters Letizia Quarella and Gloria Santini. Donations in memory of Pio can be made to Caring Hospice and to the St. Padre Pio Youth Group.
