Obituary of Lamarr "Cookie" Stanker

Lamarr "Cookie" Stanker passed away on March 8th at his Baker Place residence. Lamarr was born in Vineland in 1933 to Felix and Rose (Palaver) Stanker. Shortly after Lamarr was born, Rose passed away and he moved in with his grandparents. At an early age, he earned the name "Cookie" and it stuck with him his whole life. Cookie served in the Army from 1951-1953. He married Olive (Johnson) Stanker in 1958. Olive passed away in 2023, just two months short of their 65th wedding anniversary. For many years he was a member of Buck Grange Gun Club along with his uncles and cousins. While Laurie and Terri were young, weekends and vacations were spent camping throughout South Jersey, Lancaster and the Chesapeake Bay area. So many friends and great memories were made. Cookie was a truck driver for Edward Campbell Co., which then became E.P. Henry, until he retired in 1995. The day after his last day of work, Cookie and Olive moved to Wardensville, West Virginia and lived the simple life for 21 years. While in West Virginia, Cookie enjoyed fixing small engines, fishing in Warden Lake, watching wildlife and tending to his yard. After returning to Vineland in 2015, he loved puttering in his well-stocked garage, rooting for the Phillies and Eagles, and was very proud of the clematis and canna that he grew in his yard. Cookie is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Laurie and Victor LaTorre, daughter Terri Dean, grandsons and their wives, Michael and Natalie (Catrambone) LaTorre, RJ and Shana (Sirawatka) Garvey and Kyle and Lauren (Sushko) Garvey and cousins, nieces and nephews. Cookie had one great granddaughter, Olivia Rose Garvey, and a second, Calliope Grace, was born the same day that he died. "An angel in, an angel out." In addition to his parents, Cookie was predeceased by his stepmother, Theresa (Gallina) Stanker, and his son-in-law Stephen Dean. During this journey, "Cookies Army" included Aysha, Montrell, Nelly, Evelyn, Sharon, Brenda and Dolly, and the staff of Baker Place, along with the guidance and caring of Patty, Debra and Jamie from Red Oak Hospice. A funeral home visitation will be held on Friday, March 14th from 9am to 11am followed by a funeral service at 11am from Rone Funeral Service, 1110 East Chestnut Avenue, Vineland. Inurnment will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park, Millville. ARRANGEMENTS are under the supervision of Rone Funeral Service, 1110 East Chestnut Avenue, Vineland, NJ 08360 In lieu of flowers, memorial donations would be appreciated to Red Oak Hospice, 591 Shiloh Pike, Bridgeton, NJ 08302.
