Obituary of John G Lillie

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of John Gary Lillie, who left us on March 6, 2025, at the age of 68. John was a dedicated father, a loving brother, and a dear friend to many. Born on April 7th, John spent his early years in Landisville. As a young man, he was an enthusiastic baseball player, impressively throwing the ball from the outfield to home plate with the precision of a professional. This talent was just one of the many ways he showcased his dedication and passion for life. John had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel like family and left lasting impressions, even on those he met only once. John was preceded in death by his birth parents, Nicholas and Margaret Lillie (Ottenbride). He was lovingly raised by his "adoptive" parents, John and Mary Formisano, whom he affectionately called Grammy and Pop-Pop. Their love and guidance played a significant role in shaping the incredible man we all knew and loved. For over four decades, John worked as an electrician in the IBEW Local 351 and operated two electrical companies, RS Electrical Contractors and Skyline Electrical Contracting. Most recently, he served as the Director of Municipal Utilities for the City of Vineland for over eight years. A proud graduate of the VHS Class of 1974, where he also served as class president, John was known for planning the most lively class reunions. His integrity and strong work ethic made him a successful self-made businessman who was always willing to do what was right, even if it meant challenging the status quo. John was known for his infectious personality and his unique talent for telling jokes, spreading laughter and joy to everyone around him. He took great pride in keeping his yard immaculate-a reflection of his love for his home, his attention to detail, and his inability to sit still. John was often called "the mayor" because he knew everyone wherever he went. A quick Sunday trip to ShopRite would frequently turn into hours as he chatted with friends and acquaintances, making even the shortest errands feel like social events. In his free time, he enjoyed playing golf and treasured moments spent with family and friends. Anyone fortunate enough to know him was touched by his generosity, and his ability to make everyone feel valued and important. He was the thread that connected so many lives, a true friend and a guiding force. John will always be deeply missed by his daughter, Lauren, who was the light of his life. They were a perfect reflection of each other in every way, sharing a connection that words cannot fully capture. He is also survived by his three brothers, Nicholas Lillie, Rodney Lillie (Judi), and Michael Lillie (Rita), each of whom held a special place in his heart. Many of his happiest memories were made with these brothers, whom he cherished. John is also fondly remembered by his nieces, nephews, godsons, the extended Formisano family, and countless friends. As we celebrate the life of John Lillie, we invite all who knew him to reflect on the laughter, love, and warmth he brought into their lives. While he may no longer be with us, his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who loved him. A funeral home visitation will take place on Saturday, March 15 from 9am to 1pm with a memorial service to honor John and the countless memories we shared with him at Rone Funeral Service, 1110 E Chestnut Avenue, Vineland, NJ. In lieu of flowers, John's wishes were that donations be made to the exceptional nurses at Cooper Hospital who cared for him during his final days. Contributions can be made "In Memory of John Lillie" C/O Newfield National Bank, (Attn: Pete Capizola) 881 North Main Road, Vineland, NJ 08360.
