My earliest memories of "Uncle" Jerry were from the early 60's on DeShibe Terrace. Walking to Sacred Heart Grammar school with the Barry kids is a vivid memory; we were in and out of their house daily! "Uncle" Jerry always had a smile on his face with "Aunt Marie" by his side. Standing tall I remember him occasionally smoking his pipe. He was a disciplinarian, yet always a warm, loving father. I didn't know the VHS Principal side of him. During the funeral service I wasn't surprised to learn how revered he was, not only by students, but by all who worked there! Maureen gave an eloquent eulogy~ she definitely follows in her dad's literary footsteps! I'm sure Uncle Jerry is smiling down with pride on his 5 fabulous children and 15 beautiful grandchildren! The song they sang at the Mausoleum was incredible. The Barry family is a loving reflection of a most extraordinary man (with an extraordinary woman by his side!)! I was proud to call him "Uncle" Jerry!

Mr. Barry was my principal in 1964 & 1965 when I graducated. He was always there for us when even just had to talk.He took time with us and I believe he was the best principal ever for Vineland High School. I will always remember that smile!!! The day he passed was on my Birthday. The family is forever in my prayers and in my husband and my heart for strength and comfort from our Father in heaven. Mr. Barry was the kindest, most understanding, and eloquent Principal when my sister and I graduated from VHS in 1966 and 1967 respectively. At that time, we had recently come from Brazil and were unfamiliar with the culture, customs, and school traditions in America. Gerald Barry was friendly and always ready to help. I will always have fond memories of him. My condolences to the family.

Dear Barbara (and family) - I remember, of course, that your Dad was our Principal. But, I also remember being aware on some level that he was also your Dad. In many ways this awareness confirmed him as human for me and not merely a "figure head". Reading the many fond recollections written here and, no doubt, expressed elsewhere, it seems quite evident that your Dad/our Principal was quite an extraordinary father, husband, principal, friend whose compassion and countenance greatly influenced many and will surely be remembered. Our prayers are with you and your family. The Baker-Cornatzer Family

I was a student of Mr. Barry in the '50s and I've always remembered him with respect and fondness. He broadened my understanding and brought a joy to teaching I have seldom found in all my years of studying. I extend my condolences to the whole Barry family and thank you for sharing him with us.

Gerald Barry was one of the greatest men I have ever known in my life. I knew Uncle Jerry since I was 5 years old. It was the Mascara Barry neighborhood. Since my early age Uncle Jerry influenced me so much. We had so much fun and I have the best memories. Uncle Jerry and Aunt Marie always opened their home to me. I became so close to Jerry Jr. and had so many good times with the entire family. They always treated me like family. The Barry's are the best and to Uncle Jerry. I will pray and see you in heaven one day. Lets celebrate the life of one of the classiest men of all time. Love and my deepest prayers to all the Barrys. Tom Mascara.

First, my sympathies to Mr. Barry's family and close friends. Mr. Barry surely lived a very full and rich life; we should all be so fortunate. I graduated from VHS in 1971 and volunteered in the records office in lieu of study hall. I came to know Mr. Barry on a personal level and knew him to be a gracious man who possessed compassion for his work and love for his students and staff. A well-liked man, Mr. Barry will always be remembered by his students as a kind and competent human being. My sympathies to the Barry's

I know Mr. Barry through the eyes and heart of Barbara. Throughout the years of our teaching together, Barbara would never hesitate to call her Dad to seek advice, share a challenge, to laugh at a funny school story, but most of all, just to hear his voice. She shared the stories of how loved her Dad was and how he was her hero. It is a special legacy that is left when you have touched people's lives with the goodness and kindness that I came to know as "Barbara's Dad." That legacy continues and the relationship with Mr. Barry will grow and be a continual source of inspiration. Mr. Barry, I loved you even though we never met! Love and suppot to the whole family, you now have a saint that you know by name. Katie

Though I only met the man once, I am forever grateful to have had that one opportunity. Whenever anyone spoke of the kind, gracious man, it was with a reverent tone and polite words. I cannot say just how accurate those very descriptions were. Rest in peace, Pop Pop, your goodness is survived.
