Obituary of James H. Thurston

James Hezekiah Thurston, Jr., 66, of Vineland passed away on Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at South Jersey Regional Medical Center. He was born in Millville to the late Laura Shin (Pangburn) and James Carl Thurston. He was raised in Cedarville and Millville before moving to Vineland in 1962. He was employed by Kimble Glass in Vineland as a furnace operator for 41 years, retiring in 2004. He was a member of the American Flint Glass Workers Union. James served in the U.S. Army and received an Honorable Discharge. He also served in the Army National Guard for 4 years obtaining the rank of sergeant. He belonged to the American Legion Nabb Leslie Post 82 in Millville. He was a civil war buff and was a member of the Sons of the Confederate, Virginia Division. James enjoyed history and watched the history channel. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Marie (Siders) Thurston of Vineland, NJ; son, Wes Thurston, of Millville, son, Rich Thurston of Laurel Lake; daughter Terri Wood of Mauricetown; daughter Carol Campbell of Millville; daughter Christie Thurston, of Laurel Lake; stepson Gary Cline of Illinois; stepson Michael Cline of Texas; step-daughter Debbie Kobriger of Vineland, sister Kathryn Thurston, of Ocean View; half-sister Lucy Linkowitz of Port Elizabeth; and sister-in-law Betty Burd of Harrisburg, PA; 10 grandchildren and 5 Step-grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by 2 half-brothers Clayton and Robert DaGrossa. Funeral home visitation will be held on Friday, August 13, 2010 from 1:30 pm to 2:30 with a funeral service to be held at 2:30 pm from Rone Funeral Service, 1110 East Chestnut Avenue, Vineland. Interment will follow in Cumberland County Veterans Cemetery, Bridgeton.
